General Liner Installation Instructions

READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR LINER

Step 1:
Place liner on edge of shallow end with black arrow facing pool. After positioning, remove the black arrow.

Step 2:
Unfold your liner. Carry unfolded liner to transition of shallow end/slope and rest liner on bottom. Do not drag material on pool bottom.

Step 3:
Grasp corners of exposed top flat and pull to shallow end of pool. Position and install end wall. Secure liner around bottom of entire shallow end (plus steps and roman ends where applicable) with sandbags or double water tubes.

If your liner is made with vinyl stairs to fit into a steel step section, proceed to Step 4. If your pool has preformed fiberglass stairs or has no stairs at all - proceed to Step 5.

Step 4:
If your pool is equipped with steel stairs, position and set the stair section first. Place sandbags on treads and in front of your step at the base seal before proceeding with the liner installation. The liner stair section has a hold down sleeve into which hold down rods are inserted. Hold down clips are secured between the stair tread and riser.

The rods are non-corrosive, lightweight and flexible fiberglass. Long rods are provided for the two lower steps and one shorter rod for the top step. On new pool installations, before backfilling the staircase area, hand tighten the bolts close to the rod clip insert areas. However, test the spacing between the riser and stair tread to be certain the clips will fit firmly. Remember to remove your shoes before walking on the liner. Start at the bottom step.

A) Insert all rods into the liner sleeves. Center the rods in sleeve and adjust the vinyl fabric equal distance from each end of the rod (Figure 1B). Duct tape rods to clips (Figure 1A).
B) Slip clips, with flat side to riser, over the rod at the four liner slots (Figure 2).
C) Position the liner material so the seams are equally spaced from side wall of stair.
D) Repeat the above procedure for the remaining steps. Remember the short rod belongs on the top step.
E) With all the steps secured, snap the liner bead into the coping. Working under the staircase, make sure all the bolts are snug "hand tight" and bend the exposed hold down clip ends (Figure 4.)

If your stair is equipped with a permanent rod system, no clips are necessary. Simply slide the rods into the sleeves and insert the ends of the rods through the holes in the side of the staircase and bolt the rods from the backside.

Step 5:
Grasp the corners of the deep end wall and unfold as you did the shallow end. In some cases the remaining material will have to be flipped over. In the same manner, position and align the deep end of the pool eliminating any wrinkles by pulling and positioning the liner. Once the corners are aligned, proceed to insert the bead of the liner into the coping corner.

Step 6:
After the deep end corners have been properly installed, walk halfway to any corner and lift the liner into the bead, working loose fabric back to each corner.

Step 7:
After the liner is secured, we suggest using a vacuum to hold the liner in place. Position the suction hose approximately 18" up from the base seal and near your skimmer.

Installation Tips

Most problems occur in the shallow end, around steps and with roman ends. If attention is paid to securing the base seal in the shallow end, especially around the steps and roman ends, most problems can be avoided. To secure the base seal we strongly recommend the use of either sand bags or double water tubes around the entire shallow end.

DO NOT OVERLY STRETCH THE LINER MATERIAL! The normal field dimension of the walls is forty (40) inches. We use thirty nine (39) inch wall material which allows for one inch of stretch. If you took a 39 inch piece of material and tried to stretch it five to ten inches, you can see how much strain is put on the base seal. If a liner comes apart next to a seal, it is usually due to an excessive amount of strain on the seal because there is more resistance to stretch at a seal than at any other part of the liner.

Before installing your liner, skimmer gasket(s) and inlet gasket(s) should be mounted. If you have a main drain, the first gasket should be glued before the liner is installed. Be sure to check all coping joints for sharp edges. Cover any existing sharp areas with duct tape so as not to tear your liner during installation.

Vinyl liners are best installed in warm weather because the material will be more pliable, it can be handled better and packing wrinkles will disappear more quickly. If the liner is to be installed in cool weather, it should be stored in a heated room for a day or two before installation.

Check your pool bottom for stones, twigs or sharp objects and remove them. Wipe walls clean.
